Taylor Homecoming Features Alumni Awards, Sports, Special Screening of the Motion Picture “Fireproof”

Our Father's World is the theme for Taylor University's 2009 Homecoming, scheduled for October 16-
18. Featured events for the weekend include music, alumni awards, intercollegiate athletic events, food, alumni reunions and a special screening of the motion picture Fireproof with 1979 Taylor alumnus David Nixon.
The annual celebration brings an estimated 2,000 alumni to campus each fall.
Nixon, who will receive the Distinguished Alumnus for Professional Achievement Award from Taylor, is the president of DNP Studios, Orlando, Fla., which produced the motion picture Fireproof. The public is invited to the showing of Fireproof at 8:00 p.m., Saturday evening in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium. In addition to the film, Nixon will talk about his experiences during its production. There is no charge for admission.
Additional weekend highlights include the Taylor theatre department production Footprints of a Pilgrim, a celebration of the life of the late Ruth Bell Graham, the Homecoming 5K walk/run and a concert with Christian recording artist Amy Shreve.
During the Alumni Program in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium on Saturday, the Taylor University Alumni Association will present the following awards:
• David Nixon '79, Distinguished Alumnus for Professional Achievement
• Dr. Jonathan Askew '65, Distinguished Alumnus for Personal Achievement
• Paul Wagner '02, Distinguished Young Alumnus for Professional Achievement
• Ken and Beth Smith, Honorary Alumni
Taylor University's Athletic Hall of Fame will induct four new members during halftime ceremonies at the Taylor-Walsh football game. They are:
• Rick Minnich '74, Football
• Stevimir Ercegovac ‘02, Track and Field
• Alan Jones '02, Basketball
• Laurel (Kinzer '90) Dean, Volleyball
"Homecoming is a wonderful time when we are privileged to welcome home our alumni and reintroduce them to those things that make this such a special place," said Brent Rudin, associate vice president for alumni and parent relations. "We are excited to celebrate how God has used and continues to use our more than 19,000 Taylor University alumni around the world. This year we are organizing a dozen class reunions. This will be a very special weekend."
