The Brown Sisters Photography Exhibit Comes to Taylor
09.30.2009
"The Brown Sisters" photography exhibit is on display at Taylor University. The exhibit is a collection
of portraits that were inaugurated by photographer Nicholas Nixon in 1975, when he photographed his wife Bebe with her three sisters.
Since then, Nixon has photographed the four women on an annual basis creating a notable black and white study in family relationships that depict "the clear and inevitable passage of time on the beautiful faces of Heather, Mimi, Bebe, and Lauren as they mature from teenagers to adults."
The sisters always line up in the same order, and primarily look directly at the camera, reflecting the presence of Nicholas himself, looking back.
The photographs have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), New York City, the Josef Albers Museum in Germany and the National Gallery of Art in Washington.
The photographs are on loan from the private collection of Keith and Jeanne ('75) Canham from September 28 to October 23, 2009.
