Comedian Ken Davis, Music, Food and Sports Highlight Taylor's 2009 Parents and Family Weekend
09.24.2009
Athletic events, special speakers, food, a block party and program by Christian comedian Ken Davis headline Taylor University's 2009 Parents and Family Weekend, Oct. 2-4.
Taylor President Eugene B. Habecker is the featured speaker for the Sunday morning worship service in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium and President Emeritus Jay Kesler will speak for a family hour gathering on Saturday morning.
The weekend's organizers have added a block party for parents and students on Friday evening, which will be held near the Samuel Morris statue garden. There will be food and entertainment by the Taylor Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Wind Ensemble.
Saturday evening's featured event is Christian comedian Ken Davis with the Taylor Chorale in Rediger. Davis is featured daily on Lighten Up, a syndicated radio program heard on more than 1,500 stations in the United States and throughout the world. Davis is the author of several books that include: How to Live with Your Kids When You've Already Lost Your Mind!, Fire Up Your Life, and Jumper Fables.
Athletic events featuring Taylor's football and men's soccer teams are also planned. Parents Weekend began originally as a game-day recognition of the parents of Taylor football players and has since expanded into a weekend-long program.
According to Jerry Cramer, Taylor's director of parent programs, an estimated 400 families will attend with some coming to Upland from as far away as New Hampshire and Texas.
"Our parents are valued partners in the educational process and the purpose of this weekend is to welcome them for a fun weekend here on campus," said Cramer. "Knowing that parents come from all over the United States speaks volumes of the love and care they have for their students."
