09.14.2009
Former U.S. Representative John N. Hostettler is the featured speaker at a forum at Taylor
University on Thursday, September 17 (Constitution Day), at 7:00 PM in Room 203-205 of the Rupp Communication Arts Center.
The forum is open to the public and is the first of two scheduled appearances at Taylor by Hostettler.
"We are delighted to have John Hostettler come to Taylor University on Constitution Day," said Dr. Stephen Hoffmann, professor and chair of Taylor's political science department. "During his six terms in Congress his work was centered on the Judiciary Committee, and since then he has been working through the Publius Forum to enable citizens to understand Constitutional issues. This is an unusual opportunity to learn about the theory and practice of American democracy."
From 1995 to 2007 Hostettler served Indiana's eighth congressional district. During that time, he served on the House Committee on Agriculture (1995-2001), the House Committee on Armed Services (1995-2007), and the House Committee on The Judiciary (2001-2007).
Since returning to Evansville, Ind., Hostettler has written extensively for the Publius Forum and authored a book, "Nothing for the Nation - Who Got What Out of Iraq."
His presentation is the first of a two-part series presented by Taylor's Department of Political Science. Hostettler's second appearance is scheduled for October 14. For more information, visit: http://www.johnhostettler.com/.
