General Information
How to Apply
Students desiring an off-campus study program (OCP) experience should contact their academic department and advisor and convey their interest to the off-campus study programs office, located in the Ayres Building.
The OCP office hosts several interest meetings each semester, allowing students to explore the various OCP opportunities, learn about the application process and ask questions. After attending an interest meeting, students are encouraged to arrange individual appointments with the Director of Off-Campus Programs for further discussion and an interview.
Students applying to partner programs must go through a two-step process and complete a Taylor approval process before the application to any partner program is finalized.
Students approved by Taylor and accepted to the OCP are required to attend pre-departure orientation sessions. The sessions take place during the semester prior to participation in the program. Students will be prepared to logistically depart and return to Taylor as well as gain information on items such as course selection and housing. The sessions will also highlight key areas of preparedness in areas such as culture, academics, safety and faith.
Qualifications
In general, students must satisfy the following Taylor requirements for application: 2.75 GPA (higher requirement enforced for some programs), good academic and social standing, student account in good standing, clearance from the student's academic advisor, and completion of the program's application materials. Students are required to have completed one semester in residence at Taylor prior to applying. The Taylor process also includes an interview with the Director of Off-Campus Programs.
Application Deadlines
Taylor OCP application deadlines (please note these are prior to the programs' deadlines):
- January 22 for early application (Fall 2010)
- March 1 for fall participation
- April 30 for early application (Spring 2011)
- October 1 for spring participation
In a few cases where programs announce an earlier application deadline, students are asked to complete the Taylor approval process two weeks prior to the standard deadline.
Participation Guidelines
Students may attend more than one semester in off-campus programs, but should keep in mind that those who have not had the opportunity to already will be given preference. Participation per program is limited to one consecutive semester at a time. Institutional financial aid applies only to the first semester of off-campus study.
Academic Policies
The academic policies of Taylor University apply to OCP. Though many programs return credit as Taylor credit, some return as transfer credit and students should note the applicable transfer credit policies.
Billing
The billing model for semester OCP is the sum of the following:
- Taylor University tuition (or the program's tuition, if higher);
- an OCP fee ($300);
- applicable TU on-campus fees;
- the program's room;
- the programs' board;
- and the program's fees.
If not included in the program's fees, travel to/from the program (in whole or in part) is the responsibility of the student.
